Effects on local economy

Have you ever considered that a windfarm could be an asset for your community?

As shown by various experiences analysed in the WinWind project, one of the most meaningful and effective drivers for social acceptance of wind energy projects is their capacity to have positive effects on the local economy.

Wind energy development, indeed, could be associated with local tax revenues, creation of jobs at the local level and other opportunities, like electricity price reduction. However, in certain cases – especially when factors like the impacts on landscape are not properly addressed – it can also reduce profitability and employment in other important sectors, such as tourism.

OPPORTUNITIES

  • Possibility to keep the project benefits (tax revenues, power availability increase etc.) in the local community
  • Creation/improvements of  local infrastructures (e.g. roads,  power lines, etc.)

CHALLENGES

  • Risk or reducing the profitability of tourism
  • Decrease of real estate and land prices
