Trust is a pivotal factor, together with procedural justice and distributional justice in fostering community acceptance of wind power.
Lower levels of acceptance are usually associated in decreasing trust in public institutions and energy operators. Such a process was reported in cases where decisions on new plants were taken without consideration of the citizens’ points of view. Case study analysis on community-led initiatives, instead, showed how the adoption of voluntary agreements based on trust and perceived equity were conducive to high levels of social acceptance. Another relevant aspect to be taken into consideration is transparency in communication.
